We have an immediate opening for a talented and motivated associate attorney in our Santa Barbara, California office with 2-4 years of experience within our litigation practice group.
Job Description
As an Associate Attorney, you will play a pivotal role in assisting the Firm in a range of civil litigation matters. With the guidance of our partners and more senior associates, the Associate Attorney will be involved in all aspects of litigation. Our associates gain valuable experience early in their careers, with opportunities to participate in client communications, and vigorously represent our clients’ interests in court hearings. While the Associate Attorney’s duties will vary, they will include the following:
- Conducting in-depth research and analysis into legal issues to advise clients on appropriate strategies.
- Drafting, reviewing, and responding to pleadings, motions, and written discovery.
- Preparing for and attending depositions, hearings, and trials.
- Organizing and managing documents from multiple sources in the course of multidistrict and other complex litigation.
- Managing case deadlines and timelines.
- Communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, staff, and the court.
- Attending hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and court proceedings.
- Assisting in trial preparation, including witness preparation and exhibit organization.
- Participating in trial proceedings, with the goal of eventually undertaking direct and cross-examination of witnesses.
Requirements:
- Admitted to the California State Bar as a member in good standing.
- One to three years of experience in civil litigation preferred.
- Strong written and critical thinking skills that lead to comprehensive and persuasive writing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, clients, and the court.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Handle complex problems utilizing initiative, creativity, and sound professional judgment while working independently and as a team player.
- The ideal candidate is self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a desire to assist in all aspects of litigation.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package. The compensation range for this position is between $125,000 to $200,000, depending on experience and other factors. Full-time associates are also eligible for comprehensive benefits including 100% of the employee’s premiums for health, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan, including a 3% employer contribution plus additional matching opportunities. Our employees enjoy generous paid leave and paid holidays. We also offer a casual office environment and the possibility of working either in person or hybrid after the conclusion of the initial training period.
